PROVIDENCE, R.I.– The Hospital Association of Rhode Island (HARI) has named Michael Sroczynski (right) as the organization’s next president, the board of trustees announced today. Sroczynski, a leading regional healthcare advocate with over two decades of experience representing hospitals and health systems, previously served as the executive vice president for the Massachusetts Health & Hospital Association (MHA).
“We are excited to welcome a president as dynamic and experienced as Mike to the Hospital Association of Rhode Island,” said Mary Marran, president & COO of Butler Hospital and chair of the Hospital Association of Rhode Island’s board of trustees. “Mike has a deep understanding of the current healthcare landscape and the multitude of challenges our local hospitals, health systems, providers, and patients are facing. His leadership will be immensely important as we work to build a better, even more innovative healthcare system for all Rhode Islanders.”
The Hospital Association of Rhode Island serves as the leading voice for the state’s hospitals and health systems, helping members meet the needs of their patients and workers through advocacy, representation, education and partnership.
Sroczynski will assume the role on September 2, succeeding Howard Dulude, who has served as the organization’s interim president since August 2024. As president, Sroczynski will lead state and federal advocacy efforts, convene healthcare leaders around timely issues and advance the organization’s mission on behalf of its 17 hospital and health system members.
“Rhode Island is home to a special healthcare community with deep roots in our neighborhoods and even deeper ambitions for the future of patient care,” said Michael Sroczynski, president of the Hospital Association of Rhode Island. “I am honored to help uplift the voices of our hospitals and health systems at a time when provider voices are needed the most. I look forward to learning from the strong leadership of HARI’s board, caregivers across Rhode Island, and our elected officials as we all focus on the singular mission of delivering high-quality, accessible healthcare for every patient in the state.”
Sroczynski’s appointment comes at a critical time of change and opportunity for Rhode Island’s healthcare system. He will oversee the association’s work to stabilize local provider organizations as they address intensifying financial pressures, harness innovative care that can increase access and lower costs, and build a strong caregiver workforce of the future.
At MHA, Sroczynski led the strategic direction and management of the association’s government advocacy, legal and regulatory affairs, and policy development. He was an integral part of MHA’s success through Massachusetts’ nation-leading adoption of universal health coverage, its response to COVID-19 and numerous other public health crises, and landmark policies centered around care coordination, payment structure, and workforce development. Prior to MHA, he served as legislative counsel in the Massachusetts State Senate.
Sroczynski currently serves on the boards of the Professional Liability Foundation and the Massachusetts Chapter of the Arthritis Foundation. He is also a member of the New England Council’s healthcare committee and is a past chair of the American Hospital Association’s state association government relations officer group. He is a graduate of Syracuse University’s Martin J. Whitman School of Management and College of Law.
